Industry and Talent Development

Corus is committed to fostering a strong, vibrant and sustainable media industry that is both domestically successful and globally competitive. In addition, Corus supports educational and industry-related initiatives and events in Canada through corporate sponsorship and donations.

Corus Radio believes in working with Canadian artists to enrich our music industry investing millions in Canadian talent development each year. Whether the support comes in the form of airplay, station-sponsored live events, on-air promotion or our Video Advantage Program, Corus is focused on assisting new emerging artists by providing the foundation they need for success locally and internationally.

Corus Radio also helps foster and develop Canadian music artists through direct financial contributions to eligible third parties associated with Canadian Content Development including FACTOR, national and provincial music organizations, performing arts groups, schools and scholarships.

Corus Television is a major contributor to the development and broadcast of high quality television and film in Canada, as well as the distribution of Canadian content in over 160 countries around the world. Corus has also partnered with numerous organizations in support of industry and educational initiatives, including the Alliance for Children and Television, Concerned Children’s Advertisers, Canadian Women in Communications, Banff World Television Festival and the Canadian Film Centre.

Corus also offers funding to Canadian screenwriters, producers and talent through targeted funds:

  • The Corus Made with Pay Fund, administered by Movie Central, provides financial support to Canadian film and television productions at various stages of development. This script and concept development fund invests $1.5 million each year to develop movies and series.
  • The Telelatino Fund supports the production of programs that appeal to Canadian-Italian and Canadian-Hispanic audiences. This $1.1 million fund is a top-up licence fee for programs that receive support from TLN, the Telelatino Network.
  • CMT’s Video Advantage Program was established to help contribute to the growth of the Canadian county music industry and provide opportunities for new and established Canadian artists to showcase their talents. CMT’s VAP invests millions of dollars each year to support the production of Canadian country music videos and country music programming.

Corus’ commitment to sustaining a strong media industry and developing new Canadian talent is an integral part of our business and the key to our continued growth and success.
