Entertainment announced today
that AM Info690 Montréal and AM940
Montreal's Greatest Hits will
cease operation on January 29
at 7 p.m.

Despite the excellence
and dedication of station employees, Info690 and AM940 are unprofitable. Corus Québec and
its employees worked to grow audience and revenues on both these stations while
operating them as efficiently as possible. It is clear that these two AM stations
are not viable, particularly in the current economic climate.

This decision affects
10 positions, including eight positions at Info690: three
journalist positions, two traffic reporter positions and three operations
positions. At AM940 Montreal’s
Greatest Hits, two positions were affected: one on-air host position and one
technician position.

The Info690 Montréal
newsroom, known as CorusNouvelles,
will continue its activities as part of 98,5 FM Montréal. CorusNouvelles will continue to invest in providing
news content to the entire Corus Québec network and its clients. The
majority of journalist positions from the Info690 newsroom (five of eight journalist
positions along with three of five traffic reporter positions) will be
retained.

“We put tremendous
effort into trying to find the right format and content to grow our audience
base and operate profitably, but after years of effort it is clear these AM
stations are not viable,” said Mario Cecchini, Vice President, Corus Québec. “We would
like to thank the employees affected by this decision for their hard work. We would
also like to acknowledge the support of listeners and advertising clients of
Info690 Montréal and AM940 Montreal’s Greatest
Hits.”

The operating
licences for these two AM stations will be returned to the CRTC. Corus
Québec employs 466 people in Quebec.

About Corus Québec
Entertainment Inc. and the largest private content and information broadcaster

With its group of 52 stations and reach of approximately eight million listeners, Corus Radio continued its commitment to support long-standing charitable partnerships, as well as newer initiatives that provide much needed assistance to well-deserving organizations.

“By leveraging the power of our broadcasting assets to assist local organizations, charities and people in need, Corus Entertainment is proud of the positive impact that our radio stations have made in the communities in which we work and live,” said John Cassaday, President and CEO, Corus Entertainment. “Despite a tough economy this year, we increased our support and contributions by $2 million over last year. We applaud the exceptional efforts of our radio staff in achieving these outstanding results.”

Although active and committed in Canadian communities throughout the year, many of Corus Radio’s core fundraising efforts are centred around children and families leading up to and during the holiday season. (Toronto, Canada) Starting today, Toronto’s new rock station, Corus Entertainment’s 102.1 the Edge, welcomes “Fearless” Fred Kennedy to the station’s on-air roster as the new afternoon drive host. Weekdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., The Fearless Fred Show will deliver a unique interactive experience as Fred broadcasts, Tweets and blogs with Edge listeners and welcomes the world’s best bands to perform live in the 228 Yonge Street studio.

"Having Fearless Fred behind the wheel in afternoon drive will be a welcome addition to an already strong lineup of established personalities,” said Ross Winters, Program Director, 102.1 the Edge. “Fred’s love of music, off-the-wall sense of humour, dynamic voice and ability to connect with audiences will resonate well with Edge listeners.”

“Working at the Edge has been my ultimate radio goal since I started in the industry and to cut the mic at a station that is legendary in a town as vibrant and colourful as Toronto, is really a dream come true,” said Fred Kennedy. “The show is really just me talking to people about what’s going on. There’s no pretense. It’s just music and vernacular talk.”

Fred Kennedy began his broadcast career in Port Hawkesbury, N.S. and Dryden, Ont. until taking a part-time on-air position at Power 97 in Winnipeg, Man. It was on Power 97 that he began on-air stunting for The BJ and Hal Show and where Hal Anderson dubbed him “Fearless Fred”. Kennedy then moved on to work at 106.1 The Goat in Lloydminster, Alta. and most recently at 100.3 The Bear in Edmonton. CAMPAIGN SUMMARY
(Toronto) Q107 has launched a new advertising campaign for Derringer in the Morning with Maureen Holloway. Partnered with the creative team of David Crichton and Graham Lee, the Everything’s Better with Derringer in the Morning campaign is sure to get audiences laughing. As one of Toronto’s most listened to morning shows (#1 among Men 25 to 54 / #2 among Adults 25 to 54 ), Derringer In The Morning with Maureen Holloway on Q107 delivers genuinely funny, clever and irreverent humour every weekday morning. The new campaign capitalizes on the strength of Q’s morning show and the comic sensibility that welcomes listeners every day.

CAMPAIGN COMPONENTS
Just as the headline and copy suggest in the ads, the Everything’s Better with Derringer in the Morning campaign communicates that no matter what situation you might find yourself in -- no matter how dire, awkward or bad -- listening to the Derringer morning show will give you a lighter, more positive perspective on it all, plus it will make you laugh.
(February 2, 2009 – Toronto, Canada) Corus Entertainment is proud to announce that it has partnered with StreamTheWorld to deliver its 52 radio stations on a Corus iPhone application. Listeners can now enjoy all Corus radio stations anytime, anywhere – the first Canadian radio broadcaster to feature a native iPhone streaming application.

This easy-to-use application is fully compatible with iPhone and iPod touch. Listeners can search Corus stations either by call letters or by city. The “shake the shuffle” feature allows the user to shake the device and be offered a random Corus radio station. The application also leverages the Dolby Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), enhancing the listening experience at the lowest data consumption.

“Our radio stations need to be available wherever our listeners are, and on any device they choose to use,” said David Huszar, Vice President and General Manager of Corus Radio’s interactive division. “With the increasing popularity of the iPhone and iPod touch as the device of choice for portable entertainment, we’re thrilled to offer our listeners the convenience of accessing their favourite Corus radio station through them.”

“StreamTheWorld is committed to continuously serving Corus with new user experiences for its audience,” says Samuel Sousa, Solution Engineer for StreamTheWorld. “The native Corus iPhone application that we designed offers a richer experience since it leverages its touch screen and interaction capabilities, enables the Dolby AAC for outstanding sound quality and facilitates usage over the 3G network due to low data consumption.”

The Corus Radio application launched at sixth position in the iPhone Top Free Applications for music. Listeners can visit the App Store at the iTunes store, select Music Category and click on Corus Radio in the right hand column.
