VANCOUVER, November 27, 2023 – It’s time to get into the holiday spirit by giving back. Starting on November 28 – Giving Tuesday – Global News and Corus Radio stations in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg will be hosting major holiday fundraising initiatives in their communities to help those in need.

VANCOUVER

CKNW Kids’ Fund Pledge Day returns on Tuesday, November 28. Now in its 46th year, this annual event will feature a live radio broadcast from 980 CKNW from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by an in-person broadcast hosted by Jas Johal from the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Vancouver from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Following last year’s Pledge Day where an impressive $2,752,168 was raised for BC kids with special needs, this year’s broadcast will once again feature stories of families and kids helped by the fund, donors, prominent community members, and CKNW hosts.

Global BC will also air a special live broadcast in support of CKNW Kid’s Fund Pledge Day with Chris Gailus and Sophie Lui from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Listeners can make a donation by phoning 604-222-9898 or online at CKNWKidsFund.com.

On Wednesday, December 13 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Global BC’s Jason Pires, Sonia Sunger, Mark Madryga and Katelin Owsianski from Global News Morning and Rock 101’s Willy in the Morning will be live on location at the Fairmont Pan Pacific Hotel in support of the 36th annual Pan Pacific Christmas Wish Breakfast.

Anyone who donates new or unwrapped toys, cash or a gift card, will receive a complimentary breakfast from the Pan Pacific. Donations will help support the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.

EDMONTON

Global Edmonton’s 20th annual Global News Give Me Shelter campaign kicks off on November 28 and runs until December 14. Viewers are invited to donate gift cards and much-needed funds that will go towards building awareness on shelter resources available to help women who are experiencing domestic brutality.

For two decades, thanks to the generous support of the community, the campaign has provided countless items and Christmas gifts for women and children who are the victims of assault, as well as thousands of dollars in donations.

The focal point of the campaign is the all-day donation drive-thru, happening on Wednesday, December 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Global Edmonton TV and radio personalities will be outside the station, at 5325 Allard Way, accepting cash and gift card donations. Donations can also be mailed to the station or made online at Globalnews.ca/givemeshelter.

Santas Day, in support of 630 CHED Santas Anonymous, will once again broadcast live from Santas Depot at the Jerry Forbes Centre for Community Spirit on Thursday, December 7. from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ensuring that every child receives a toy under the tree at Christmas, the all-day broadcast will include stories from past recipients, long-time volunteers, and staff, as they share the impact 630 CHED Santas Anonymous has on families in Edmonton.

CALGARY

On Friday, December 1 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., QR Calgary will broadcast live from The Westin Hotel for Pledge Day. Now in its 31st year, this 12-hour broadcast, in support of the Calgary Children’s Foundation and in partnership with The Westin Calgary, will feature charities that benefit from the donations, families who have been helped, supporters, as well as local celebrities.

Global Calgary will also broadcast Global News Morning, Global News at Noon and Global News at 5 live from the Westin.

Listeners are encouraged to donate online at calgarychildrensfoundation.com or in person at the event.

After a two-year hiatus, Global Calgary will host its sixth Morning of Giving on Wednesday, December 13 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in support of The Magic of Christmas.

Join Leslie Horton at our donation drop-off at the CORE (324 8 Ave SW) and bring a new, unwrapped gift for any age (household items, clothing, toys, electronics, etc.) to help Calgary families in need.

The Magic of Christmas is a 100% volunteer, non-denominational charity. Every Christmas Eve, Calgary Transit buses are loaded up and magically transform into “reindeer buses,” with hundreds of gifts and volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves to deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.

Donations can be made online at themagicofchristmas.org.

WINNIPEG

For over 100 holiday seasons, the Christmas Cheer Board has been delivering food, toys, and good cheer to those in need. 680 CJOB, Power 97, Peggy@99.1, and Global Winnipeg will be live on location near the food court at St. Vital Centre on Friday, November 24 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Cheer Board will once again be providing families with grocery hampers and gifts for children 14 years of age and under. Listeners are being asked to donate by dropping off cash, new unwrapped toys, or non-perishable food items. All contributions will be put towards gift and hamper deliveries between December 8 and 23. In return for any donation, participants will be able to put a ballot into Santa’s Prize Sack to win concert tickets and other cool stocking stuffers.

Listeners can also donate by texting the word ‘CHEER’ to 45678, or online at the christmascheerboard.ca.

Join 680 CJOB, Power 97, Peggy@99.1 and Global Winnipeg, along with Ken Talbot, Kevin Bulio and Mike Palmer, on Saturday, December 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Boston Pizza, 1630 Kenaston Blvd. to ‘Fill The Freightliner’ in support of Siloam Mission.

Siloam Mission will be collecting urgently needed items such as non-perishable food, new/gently adult winter clothing and cash donations.
