VANCOUVER, October 6, 2021 – Global News Radio 980 CKNW announced today a newly refreshed weekend morning show lineup including Weekend Mornings with Stirling Faux on Saturdays from 6 to 9 a.m. starting October 9, followed by A Word in Edgewise hosted by veteran radio personality Jon McComb at 9 a.m.. Weekend Mornings with Raji Sohal airs Sundays from 6 to 9 a.m., effective October 10.
“Our new weekend lineup features highly-accomplished talk show hosts who will add context and perspective to the stories that matter to our listeners,” said Kathryn Stewart, Director, Talk and Talent, Global News Radio 980 CKNW. “In her short time with the station, Raji has already built a strong presence as a contributor on Mornings with Simi and we look forward to our audience hearing more of her on Sunday mornings. Jon and Stirling have decades of experience broadcasting on CKNW and we are thrilled to have their depth and insight on the air.”
Faux first joined CKNW in 1993. He worked with the station for 12 years as a National Network Talk Show Host before departing in 2005. Originally from Ontario, Faux began his broadcasting career in Sudbury with stops in Toronto and Quebec City before moving to Vancouver. In 2021, he was invited to join the Half-Century Club of the BC Association of Broadcasters.
Sohal joined the team earlier this year as a contributor to Mornings with Simi. Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, Sohal previously worked as an arts reporter, contributor and podcast host with CBC Montreal before returning to her hometown.
After semi-retiring in late 2019, veteran host Jon McComb is returning to the station with a new program, A Word in Edgewise. The show features McComb and a rotating number of the best talk show hosts in Canada to discuss the major headlines of the last week. A Word in Edgewise airs Saturdays at 9 a.m., following Weekend Mornings with Stirling Faux.
McComb began working with CKNW in 1983 and has held a variety of roles with the station. Before joining CKNW, McComb worked at CFCF and CJAD in Montreal and stations in Arizona and Oregon. He was the first CKNW news reporter to become a full-time talk host. In his many years at CKNW, McComb has helped hundreds of charities and organizations, with a special focus on CKNW Kids’ Fund that has seen McComb support the millions raised in support of kids in need in the lower mainland.
