Global’s Original Series Mary Kills People Earns Nine Nominations Including Best Drama Series

Food Network Canada’s Top Chef Canada Garners Six Nominations Including Best Reality/Competition Program or Series

TORONTO, Canada – Corus Entertainment congratulates its production partners and celebrates its exceptional Canadian programming with this year’s Canadian Screen Award nominations. As recognized by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, Corus-owned properties have earned nominations across Global and its robust portfolio of Specialty networks.
Corus Entertainment’s conventional network Global garnered 21 nominations, with nine of those for critically acclaimed series Mary Kills People, which features a female led production team. The inaugural season received top honours including Best Drama Series, Best Direction, Drama Series (Holly Dale), Best Lead Actress (Caroline Dhavernas), Best Lead Actor (Richard Short), and Best Supporting Actor (Greg Bryk). Fan favourite reality series Big Brother Canada received three nominations including Best Reality/Competition Series for its fifth season. Global’s entertainment powerhouse, Entertainment Tonight Canada received two nominations, recognized in the Best Direction, Lifestyle or Information category for their Lady Antebellum Special and Best Direction, Reality/Competition for their Survivor Special. Global News earned National and Local recognition with seven nominations including Best National Newscast, Best Local Newscast and Best News Special.
The company’s roster of specialty channels earned 61 nominations across Lifestyle, Kids, and Drama. Corus’ popular Kids portfolio dominated with a combined total of 31 nominations including all five nominations in the Best Performance, Animation, and Best Writing, Animation categories. The nominations are led by YTV’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which garnered nine, and Nelvana’s Hotel Transylvania: The Series which earned five. Both original series earned top honours with nominations in the Best Animated Program or Series category.
Corus’ Lifestyle portfolio led with Food Network Canada’s culinary competition series Top Chef Canada nabbing six nominations including Best Reality/Competition Program or Series, Best Direction, Reality/Competition and Best Writing, Reality/Competition. HGTV Canada followed with three of the five nominations in the Best Lifestyle Program or Series category for Corus Studios’ Backyard Builds as well as original program Great Canadian Homes, and Property Brothers.
Additionally, Corus’ HISTORY® earned a total of 17 nominations with smash hit series Vikings receiving five, including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor, Drama Series (Alexander Ludwig). Original series Hunting Nazi Treasure garnered four nominations including Best History Documentary Program or Series and Best Writing, Documentary.
