CORUS RADIO & GLOBAL NEWS HELP COMBAT HUNGER ACROSS THE PROVINCE WITH APRIL FOODS DAY
Partnership with Feed Ontario Expands Ontario-Wide Including 20 Corus Stations
For Immediate Release
TORONTO, March 22, 2022 – Millions of Canadians struggle to feed their families each day. To help put an end to hunger and food insecurity, Global News and Corus Radio, in partnership with Feed Ontario, are turning a day of jokes and pranks into one that puts food on the table with April Foods Day. This annual initiative, which raises funds for local food banks, has expanded outside of the GTA for the first time to support communities across the province.
Beginning March 28, people can donate online at Feedontario.ca/aprilfoodsday or text FOOD to 45678. The text-to-donate line will remain open throughout the month of April.
“As broadcasters with strong ties to our communities, we have a responsibility to bring awareness to the issues affecting our audiences and the power to help,” said Troy Reeb, Executive Vice President, Broadcast Networks, Corus Entertainment. “With the rising prices for food and gas, more people are struggling to afford basic necessities. We’re proud to partner with Feed Ontario for the first time and to expand this initiative province-wide to support more individuals in need through April Foods Day.”
April Foods Day launched in Toronto in 2016 and has grown each year to help those in need. Feed Ontario is the province’s largest collective of hunger-relief organizations. Together with food banks, industry partners, and local communities, they work to end hunger and poverty by delivering fresh and healthy food, developing innovative programming, and driving change through research and advocacy.
Last year, over 592,000 adults and children accessed a food bank in Ontario, with over 3.6 million visits. By donating to Feed Ontario, people are supporting their local food bank and food banks across the province to help fight food insecurity.
