TORONTO, October 30, 2023 – This Remembrance Day, The HISTORY® Channel’s Original docu-series, Our War, shines a light on extraordinary contributions made by Canadians during World War I and II. Over two, one-hour episodes, premiering back-to-back on Saturday, November 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the descendants of these heroic Canadians explore and share the astonishing truths behind their families’ histories.
Our War follows dedicated ancestors as they scour museums and archives, clue by clue, to unearth the harrowing secrets their kin took to the grave. Each investigation reveals epic Canadian stories about ordinary individuals who made brave and profound contributions to World War I and World War II. The mysteries solved will unveil who the featured contributors’ ancestors truly were and bring them closer to understanding themselves.
The premiere episode ‘McLean & Hereford’ begins with the descendant of a World War I nurse killed in a war crime, as she investigates the story behind a treasured photograph. Meanwhile, a young man on the cusp of enlisting in the army digs into secret World War II history of his code-breaking great aunt, who was an early member of the Women’s Canadian Royal Naval Service.
In the second episode ‘Enjo & Vogel’, a Japanese Canadian survivor of World War II internment and his daughter take a journey to revisit the past, shedding light on a multigenerational story of sacrifice and endurance. In another child-parent story, the son of a Royal Canadian Airforce bomb-aimer, uncovers the prisoner of war experience his father never spoke about.
Previous episodes of Our War will repeat on November 11, with ‘Longboat & Symes’ airing at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT, and ‘Watts & Drost’ airing at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET/PT on The HISTORY® Channel and available to stream on STACKTV.
