GLOBAL CALGARY AND 770 CHQR RAISE MONEY FOR CHILDREN IN NEED

For Immediate Release

CALGARY, November 29, 2022 –Global Calgary and 770 CHQR are getting into the holiday spirit with two important fundraising initiatives, Pledge Day on December 2 and Morning of Giving taking place on December 7.

Now in its 30th year, 770 CHQR dedicates the first Friday in December to children in Calgary and local charities that are creating positive change in the community. This 12-hour broadcast, in support of the Calgary Children’s Foundation and in partnership with The Westin Calgary, will broadcast live from the hotel from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and feature charities that benefit from the donations, supporters, as well as local celebrities.

Since 1992, Pledge Day has raised money for small children’s charities in the Calgary area who support kids at-risk, with difficult medical diagnoses, suffer from physical and/or mental challenges, who are living at or below the poverty line or who need extra care. Listeners are encouraged to make a donation in any amount online at calgarychildrensfoundation.com or by calling 403-974-8255 on December 2 only.

After a two-year hiatus, Global Calgary welcomes its fifth Morning of Giving on December 7 in support of The Magic of Christmas. Presented by Bowest Appliance Inc., from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., viewers can see Global News Traffic Reporter Leslie Horton at the donation drive-thru located at the Global Calgary station (222 23 St. NE) and drop off a new, unwrapped gift for any age or a gift card in any amount to help Calgary families in need.

On Christmas eve, the hundreds of donated gifts are loaded onto Calgary Transit buses, magically transformed into reindeer buses, and delivered to the homes and hearts of those in need.

Also, December 1 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., join Leslie Horton and Global News for a holiday cookie sale at the Blue Flame Kitchen at ATCO Park. Local Calgary chefs will be baking their best recipes with all proceeds going to Global Calgary’s Morning of Giving, in support of The Magic of Christmas.
