GLOBAL NEWS ANNOUNCES HIRE OF ANNE GAVIOLA AS SENIOR DIGITAL BROADCAST JOURNALIST
Gaviola Joins Global News on Monday, March 1
TORONTO, February 8, 2021 – Global News is pleased to announce the hire of experienced multi-platform reporter Anne Gaviola as the network’s new Senior Digital Broadcast Journalist. Gaviola, who has spent more than a decade covering business across Canada on TV, radio and in print, will report on the top business news stories for all local and national Global News platforms, while also anchoring a daily business segment on Global’s OTT platform. Gaviola begins her new role March 1.
“I’m thrilled to join the dynamic team at Global News,” said Gaviola. “The pandemic’s twin health and economic crisis has thrown business and finance stories into the spotlight like never before. Whether it’s about personal finance, the stock market, technology or economic trends it’s my pleasure to share ‘news you can use’ with our audience.”
With more than a decade of experience covering business for outlets such as CTV, CBC, BNN Bloomberg and VICE, Gaviola is passionate about the utility of business news and its ability to better people’s lives. A wealth of knowledge in the areas of fintech, personal finance and the economy, she has also extensively studied and covered emerging areas such as cryptocurrency, disruptive technology and the future of work.
“We are extremely excited to have Anne join our team,” said Chris Bassett, Acting VP, National & Network News. “At a time when the global pandemic is impacting the Canadian economy in unprecedented ways, having a journalist of Anne’s quality to lead our audiences through these uncertain times is a tremendous asset.”
A graduate of Carleton University’s Journalism program, Gaviola was born in the Philippines and has worked on three continents. She’s a mother to two children, a voracious reader, and an amateur baker. During her free time, she enjoys snowboarding, flow riding and paddle boarding.
