GLOBAL NEWS TO PROVIDE SPECIAL CANADA DAY COVERAGE
Network to Air Extensive Multi-Platform Programming in Honour of Country’s Sesquicentennial
OTTAWA – Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday on Saturday and Global News will mark this important milestone with a special live broadcast across Global Television and Corus Radio from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET to bring Canadians all of the spectacular sights and sounds! This special 25-camera broadcast centres on the official birthday celebration on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and will also showcase festivities at other venues across Canada, as well as at the big overseas Canada Day party in London England’s busy Trafalgar Square.
Vassy Kapelos, Ottawa Bureau Chief and host of The West Block will co-host this three-hour extravaganza with Chief Political Correspondent David Akin.
The broadcast will include remarks from His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Duke of Wales, Governor General David Johnston, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other dignitaries, as well as a special performance by Bono and The Edge, Canada’s CF-18’s and a perennial crowd pleaser: the Canadian Snowbirds.
In addition to distribution on both television and radio, the broadcast will be streamed in its entirety on Globalnews.ca, as well as Facebook and Periscope.

In addition to the entire Global Television Network, the Global News Canada 150 special will be carried on the BC-1 all-news channel, CHEX-TV Peterborough, CKWS-TV Kingston, NTV Newfoundland, as well as on the following Corus Radio stations:
- CKNW AM 980 in Vancouver from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PT
- News Talk 770 in Calgary from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. MT
- 630 CHED in Edmonton from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. MT
- AM 980 in London, ON from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ET
- AM 900 CHML in Hamilton from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET
Global News is also teaming up with Corus Radio in Ottawa, the official media partner with Canadian Heritage, to keep Ottawa residents fully informed and entertained during the festivities via JUMP! 106.9 and boom 99.7. The stations will be on site in Major’s Hill Park and other locations from June 30th to July 2nd. On June 30th boom 99.7 host Wendy Daniels will emcee the concert series on Parliament Hill featuring Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk. On July 1st, announcers and street teams will be on Parliament Hill and in Major’s Hill Park throughout the day and evening to keep Ottawans informed. On July 2nd, the stations will be on site at Parliament Hill for WE Day festivities.
